We are thrilled to have been shortlisted in the Cross Sector Collaboration category at the NI Social Enterprise Awards, for our partnership with Habitat for Humanity Ireland.

Our support has enabled Habitat for Humanity to deliver their ‘House to Home’ programme in Belfast and Lisburn and roll out their training and employability courses in Habitat ReStore Lisburn.

Habitat ReStore is the charity’s social enterprise, which sells donated new and used building supplies and home improvement materials. ReStore enables local people to improve their homes at low cost, provides skills and employability training for people of all ages and abilities, and diverts tonnes of reusable waste from landfill.

The ‘House to Home’ delivers practical support to vulnerable individuals and families to remain in their homes and sustain tenancies. This includes help with decoration and light touch repairs, access to ReStore low-cost furnishing and toolbox training skills development.

Every week more than 50 volunteers give their time and support Habitat’s mission locally. 38% of volunteers are on supported placements through partner organisations. Our support enables Habitat for Humanity to deliver their OCN-accredited training covering in Employability Foundations, Wellbeing Foundations, Retail Foundations, and new courses in Vocational Foundations covering Carpentry and Joinery Skills and Introduction to Painting and Decorating Skills. This provides meaningful skills development and engagement opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds, with Pathways to Employment for specific groups through liaison with partner organisations.
